Above is the original storyboard in which we incorporated some of our ideas to include within our trailer. However, as we were filming we decided that we wanted to add more shots in and not include others. Therefore a second storyboard needed to be created.
Storyboard #2
This storyboard was a little out of date by the time it had finished as we had added more shots into it and also taken out some of them. Also the pictures were roughly drawn as it was another rough version of the storyboard.
Set a few years into the future, all immigration is coming to Britain with the Isle of Wright being the first port of call for people to go to if they want to migrate. At this point, there is no countryside or space for any more people and as Britain has become a huge concrete jungle. The houses are packed so tightly together that prices are high so people can’t afford even a room of a house and food and oil prices have gone up higher to accommodate such a huge population. Crime rates go up as the illegal immigrants bring in a whole new gang culture making residents scared as their resources are stolen from them. Everyone is on rations and those who go over it commit crimes punishable by death due to such a large global population.
After a while, the government funding in the form of grants, loans and benefits stops and all government services are stopped to try and conserve money and to reduce the loan from neighbouring countries. No other country is willing to help so essentially Britain is all on its own. Fights break out and a series of thefts from stores for technology and food happen as essential trading tools as means of survival. This means that large sections of the population start to get sick and hungry so they target all the higher paid jobs and the posh/ celebrity houses for trading and personal wealth bonuses.
It would follow a story of different people from different backgrounds as they tried to survive in the ‘NEW’ Britain where immigration and the laws are no longer controlled, making the world a dangerous and violent place.
The link goes to Sky news and shows the images of a child aged 3 being pulled from the water after being found dead in his attempt to cross the sea to safety from civil war in Syria. The article goes on to describe how David Cameron feels about this but also suggests that Britain should do more in order to help these people. This is an idea I wanted to explore as it suggests that Britain doesn’t do enough yet we take in large numbers of asylum seekers, immigrants and illegal immigrants in who all travel across Europe. The article also divulges into political parties opinions of each other’s and the words they speak are used as political propaganda. However being as it is a child that has been found, it highlights the dangers for all immigrants and shows the lengths that they will go to in order to ensure themselves a better life alongside their family.
This link goes to the Telegraph website to an article about the dangers of immigrants and their new ways of trying to get across the border into England. This would enhance the fear of Immigrants due to their new inventive ways to get across the border which puts people in danger as they could be targeted to aid an illegal act. Again this plays on the fear and angers people and this causes an increase in drastic measures to try and stop this from happening. When accompanied with other articles and news reports from the time the article was published in 2014 to now, it shows how the evolution of the illegal immigration crisis has affected so many people but also reveals how desperate people are becoming to resolve the crisis and to stop it all together.
Deconstructions of influences:
The Purge Anarchy (2014)
The Purge Anarchy trailer highlights the panic and fear that a situation like my film idea for immigration would cause. The idea that we could come to this point in the future through lack of government initiative or by people taking things into their own hands is highlighted in the trailer through the acts they commit but also through the constant pressure and fear on people to keep each other safe in the period that the Purge takes place in. Furthermore, the trailer also highlights a futuristic world in which the worst happens. As a source of inspiration, this was something key to focus on as it presents an alternative reality to what may happen and further harnesses the fear and directs it towards the outcome of a lawless world.
The ideas represented within the trailer are also confirmed by the fears of people with whom I spoke to as they believe that this could become a similar reality due to the masses of people taking refuge in the UK to start a better life. The violence represented within the Purge also conformed to the people’s biggest fears that the immigrants wouldn’t listen to what the laws and acceptable behaviour in the UK would be and that they would take it upon themselves to fight for what they believed they were entitled too.
Maggie (2015)
‘Dad, you’ve protected me all my life. Now it’s my turn to protect you. There is life with you, not me. Don’t come looking for me… I’m safe… I’m fine’
This is the words spoken as a voice over during the trailer of Maggie 2015. This was a big source of inspiration for my storyline due to the words summing up what kind of world I wanted it to take place in e.g. the type of world in which the children have to take it upon themselves to save their parents. The words also sum up how one of the stories of the people within my idea would be feeling as they would have gone to any lengths to survive like the people depicted in the trailer would do.
The characters within the trailer also depict the type of people that would be in the ‘NEW’ Britain within my idea. The Arnold Swcharzenegger character within the film is key as he would do anything to save his daughter from her fate, and that is something the storyline I wrote would replicate.
Over time the influences and fears within society change
depending on the events that happen in the world. The influences can be positive or negative
on the world and the fears and influences can also have a large or little
impact.

These are current topical issues that worry people or have
influenced culture for the better.
Narrowing down the
choice
When looking at the fears and influences above, as inspiration
for film ideas some of them are really good but others are not so good in terms
of creativeness but also how complicated a plot for a film would have to be in
order to incorporate that fear/influence.
Therefore the top two fears that I think would make a particularly good
storyline are the fear of immigration and the fear of plane crashes. Films and videos from news reports are great
sources of inspiration for these ideas.

The Fear of Plane
Crashes
It would start off in an airport as several people start to
board a plane and out on the runway they see a plane crash land.
This would start a panic and people running
off the plane and cancelling plans etc.
Over in the control tower they would be panicking and trying to contact
all other plane to get them to do an emergency landing to keep them safe and to
unload their passengers.
However one
plane was too far away and the communication broke.
The plane keeps flying happily off to its destination to American
coast when some of the controls stop working for a few seconds then work again,
causing the pilots to worry.
All the
passengers are unaware and they continue sleeping and working as they normally
would.
The stewards and stewardesses
begin to notice something is wrong and one questions the pilot as the plane
dips causing the passengers to worry.
The pilots try to contact the control tower but they can’t and are left
on their own to fly themselves to safety.
During this it begins to focus on families and other flyers
of their reactions as the plane get worse and worse with more technical
faults.
The film would end with the
plane having to crash land with only a few being rescued from the plane when it
crash lands in the sea.
The Shoreham air
show indicates why people fear plane crashes and the destruction they
cause. The link goes to an article by
the Guardian showing the faces and descriptions of 11 out of the 20 people
killed by the plane crash on the main road.
This highlights the devastation to not only events but to hundreds of
people’s lives through losing a loved one or having to witness the horrific
ordeal.
The images of the crash on
different articles accompanied by this further enhances that fear due to this
being the second air crash from a public display at a show in a very short
period of time.
This also has a larger
impact upon the public and the fear due to this being at an event where more
people are at risk especially the young and those unable to escape their fate.

timeline of all the articles relating to the flight and shows the article on
the debris is one of the latest articles.
The prolonged media coverage of any little development in the story
stopped when this article was published.
This shows that people still held some form of hope for the passengers and
the crew as this would mean that they were going to keep finding answers.
Deconstructions of
influences:
LOST (TV Series
2004-2010)
This was a major
source of inspiration for the fear of plane crashes as this is what the whole
point of Lost is about.
The fear created
by the plane splitting apart and crash landing is heavily played upon in the
trailer and this further enhances the fear as although this is a fictional
plane crash, the idea that your life is dependent upon landing and the skill of
a few people is a terrifying aspect.
Also, Lost
influenced from outside of this clip through the time on the beach afterwards
in which people are still at danger help to amplify the fear of the people in
the plane as their nightmare isn’t over yet.
The idea of everyone working together to help save each other and keep
each other safe highlights that they are all in this together regardless as to
who they were before the crash.
This
shows that their hope makes them believe that survival is imminent and that
they have to survive regardless of what happens in order to get home to their
families safely.
The Knowing (2009)
Again
the plane crash within the Knowing really just elaborates on the points made
about the ‘Lost’ plane crash element.
When these two crashes are compared they are very similar due to the
atmosphere they create but also they complement each other due to them
highlighting that no two plane crashes are the same and they can occur in many
different ways.
The way
the plane crashes with its wing going along the road and leaving a trail of
fire in its wake highlights the pure destruction that plane can do when going
into a descent at rapid speed.
It also
adds a more realistic element to the crash in which the people on the ground
are no safer than those in the air.
