Drama poster research

For the coursework this year, we must create a promotional package including a poster, as well as a teaser trailer and a website, because of this, it is important to research different film posters that are in our genre, drama to see what the conventions of a drama poster are. Without this, we could create a poster that doesn't adhere to the conventions and so wouldn't look right for the genre. 

• This is the film poster for the Black Swan film. 
• Here, most of the poster has been taken up by her face, showing that she is the main character. 
• The 'Golden rule' is applied here because her face is not right in the middle of the poster.
• The poster has included the three most famous actors in the film to use their fame to sell the film
• The director has been mentioned, even if not by name, but for the other films that they have been known for.
• The review that has been included shows that credible sources have liked the film.

• This is the poster for Seven Pounds
• I like that the main image is actually really simple, just a mid shot of the main character.
• Will Smith is used to sell the film because his name is prominent on the poster as it is the same size as the title.
• I think that the tagline is really creative, how the background a lot of words and the tagline is some of these words, that seem random, in red.
• I noticed that this doesn't include a billings block, which could lead me to think that this is a teaser poster (at the early stages of the film)

• This is the poster for cyberbully
• This poster is quite different because it is promoting a film that would be on the TV rather then in the cinemas, so it wouldn't include the same conventions as a film for the cinema however I chose this poster to look at the main image and because the film has aspects that is similar to our trailer.
• I really like the background, how it is full of comments from her bullies and it is all the comments that she has had to face
• I also like the image of the main character, showing her reaction and emotion to the bullies. The fact that it is just the main character could reinforce her feelings of being singled out and alone, with at the same time, showing that she is the main character.

In conclusion, I think that this is useful to find out the general conventions of a film poster. However, because our film idea is so niche, and something that I myself havn't been able to find in a film before, it is hard to find conventions for our film.
